New York City is bracing for another round of severe weather on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, following last week’s heat wave, smoky skies, and storms.
According to meteorologist Bill Goodman of the National Weather Service, two storm systems are expected to impact the area between noon and 10 p.m.

Impact & Risks

The primary risks include flash flooding, which is considered the most significant threat, followed by damaging winds. Urban areas, particularly those with poor drainage, are at heightened risk of flooding. While the chance of a tornado is low, it cannot be ruled out entirely. Residents should also be cautious of potential hail and localized wind damage. The storms could disrupt travel and outdoor activities during the afternoon and evening hours.
